Miami Lakes Library Branch sets adult and children's events

Miami Lakes Branch Library announced the following programs are available for the public during September: 

For Children and Families:

Paws to Read – This reading program aims to improve the literacy skills of children through the assistance of therapy dogs who serve as literacy mentors. Parents may bring a book or choose one from the library collection. Event is at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 10.
Reading Ready Toddler Storytime – Stories, songs and activities for toddlers and their caregivers. For ages 18 months to 3 years old on Thursdays, September 15, 22 and 29 at 11 a.m.

Library Lego Club – Join the library for monthly Lego builds at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 17.

For Teens:

Teen Club – Teens meet to play video games, watch anime, draw or discuss books, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13.

Teen Club: Dueling Makey Makey – Teams will turn everyday objects into touch pads and combine them with the Internet. It’s a simple kit for beginners or experts to expand on art, engineering and everything in between. Participants will be divided into groups and try to create the most outrageous use for the tool. Event presented the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6.

Teen Club: Super Smash Bros. Tournament – Challenge friends and compete for a chance to win a prize by playing Super Smash Bros. for WiiU. Bring a personal controller or use one from the library. Winners will move on to the final rounds at the Main Library at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. Contact the branch to register for the Miami Lakes competition scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27. 

For Adults: 

Go Club of Miami Lakes – Now everyone can embark on a journey and uncover the ancient game of strategy, attack and defense, the Game of Go. Meets from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, September 10, 17 and 24.

Momentos Musicales con Pavel Vitier – Enjoy some Latin sounds with a special performance by local musician Pavel Vitier. All ages are welcome at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 17.
Book Discussion Group – Call the branch for this month’s title for the adult book discussion club which meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20.

USCIS Information Table – United States Citizenship and Immigration Service staff will provide information, materials and answer general questions regarding the citizenship process, at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26. 

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Community Outreach – A member of his staff will be on hand to discuss federal issues or any problem a constituent may have with a federal agency at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28.

Miami Lakes Branch Library is located at 6699 Windmill Gate Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The branch is closed on Sundays. For more information, call 305-822-6520.
