The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering classes.  

     Most events require preregistration and popular courses may fill up early. Sign up in advance to avoid being shut out of classes.

Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers 

Wed., Sept. 3, 10, 17   11 a.m. – 12 p.m.  Toddlers and caregivers will hear stories, sing songs and enjoy activities.  Ages 18 mos. – 3

Teen Library Advisory Committee

Wed., Sept. 3   4 p.m. - 5 p.m.  Earn community service hours and make the library a place for you and your friends. Plan and im-plement events, give feedback about books, movies, video games and more.  

Ages 13 – 19

It’s a Shellabration! Tortoises & Florida Sea Turtles

Thurs., Sept. 4   3 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Meet Redfoot tortoises Jocko and Pebble. Then it’s time for crafting. Ages 7+

Tai Chi for Beginners

Fri., Sept. 5, 12, 19   11 a.m. – Noon  Led by a library staffer, this class of gentle and graceful movements is designed to improve bal-ance, coordination, focus and mental health. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Homework Help & Tutoring  

Sat., Sept. 6, 13, 20  10 a.m. – 1 p.m.   Certified teachers tutor students in reading, math and science for one-hour sessions. For grades K-12. Free and funded in part by The Children’s Trust. For information contact

STEM Saturday

Sat., Sept. 6  2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.   Do a STEM activity with FIU undergraduate and medical students. Materials provided. Made possible by the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP.  Ages 5 – 15

Chess Free Play: Think, Move, Play

Tues., Sept. 16   6 p.m. – 7 p.m.   Whether a beginner or experienced, test your skills in a friendly game of chess.  Ages 8+

Pop Culture during WW II 

Wed., Sept. 17   4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  How did superheroes and animated cartoons help the U.S. during WW II? Teens are welcome to learn how in an interactive presentation and trivia game. Small prizes available while supplies last. Ages 12 – 18

Talk Crafty to Me! 

Thurs., Sept. 18  11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Make crafts with other creatives. Materials provided.  Ages 19+
