     The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering classes.  Most events require preregistration and popular courses may fill up early.      The library at 6699 Windmill Gate Rd. is open Monday - Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Closed Sunday. 

Glass Painting  Thurs., Jan. 2  11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Learn techniques to turn everyday glass items into works of art. Wine glasses and Ball jars will be provided to paint or recycle your own item.  Ages 19+  (Registration is closed.)

LEGO @ Your Library   Wed., Jan. 8   4 p.m. – 5 p.m.   The Teen Library Advisory Board presents an hour of LEGO time, building blocks will be provided.  Ages 13 – 19

Tai Chi for Beginners  Fri., Jan. 10, 17   11 a.m. – Noon   Led by a library staffer, this class of gentle and graceful movements is designed to improve balance, coordination, focus and mental health. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.  Ages 19+

STEM Saturday  Sat., Jan. 11   2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Do a STEM activity with FIU undergraduate and medical students. Materials provided. Made possible by the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP.  Ages 5 – 15

Nutrition and Health Class presented by Feeding South Florida  Tues., Jan. 14  1 p.m. – 2 p.m.   Learn to prepare tasty, nutritious meals and get tips on how to eat healthy while on a budget. Recipes and treats provided for the class.  Ages 19+

Piggy Bank Painting for Kids  Tues., Jan. 14  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Paint a piggy bank and learn the basics of saving. Presented in partnership with the Dade County Federal Credit Union’s Gen-You Team.   Ages 8-12

 Florida State Attorney’s Office Community Outreach   Wed., Jan. 15  10 a.m. – Noon  A representative from the Florida State Attorney’s Office Community Outreach Division will be available to address concerns from the community.  Ages 19+

Teen Library Advisory Board  Wed., Jan. 15  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.   Earn community service hours while helping to make the library a better place for you and your friends. Help plan and put on events and provide feedback on books, movies, video games and more.  Ages 13 – 19

Talk Crafty to Me!  Thurs., Jan. 16  11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Make crafts with other creatives. Materials provided.  Ages 19+

Homework Help & Tutoring  Sat., Jan. 18  10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Certified teachers tutor students in reading, math and science for one-hour sessions. For grades K-12. Free and funded in part by The Children’s Trust. For information contact tutoring@mdpls.org or 305-375-1413.  www.mdpls.org/tutor.
