   The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering classes.  

     Most events require preregistration and popular courses may fill up early. Sign up in advance to avoid being shut out of classes.

     The library at 6699 Windmill Gate Rd. is open Monday - Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., and closed Sunday. 

Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers  Wed., April 2, 9, 16

11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Toddlers and caregivers will hear stories, sing songs and enjoy activities. Ages 18 mos. – 3

Kowai Yo! Demons, Monsters and Spirits in Japan  Wed., April 2

4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Explore the world of yokai, the monsters and spirits from Japanese folklore. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board. Presented by the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach.  Ages 13+

Create a Croton-inspired Print – Autism Acceptance Month Activity   Thurs., April 3

11 a.m. – noon  Use croton leaves and acrylic paint to print colorful patterns on canvas boards. The program is designed to engage participants at all levels of development. Ages 19+

Wild Animation: Animation Design Thurs., April 3

4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Design a storyboard about protecting our ecosystem, then make a flipbook and learn how film animators connect images to make moving pictures.  Ages 5 – 12

Chair Yoga  Fri., April 4, 11

11 a.m. – Noon.  Follow a certified instructor in yoga poses that can be done when seated or while standing behind a chair. Wear comfortable clothing.  Ages 19+

Homework Help & Tutoring  Sat., April 5, 12

10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Certified teachers tutor students in reading, math and science for one-hour sessions. For grades K-12. Free and funded in part by The Children’s Trust. For information contact tutoring@mdpls.org or 305-375-1413.  www.mdpls.org/tutor.

STEM Saturdays  Sat., April 5

2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Do a STEM activity with FIU undergraduate and medical students. Materials provided. Made possible by the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP.  Ages 5 – 15

Caregiver & Me Playgroup  Mon., April 7

10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  Build meaningful bonds with your little one through music, creative movement, arts and crafts and sensory explorations. Presented by Round Robin Playgroup.  Ages 0 – 5

Health and Nutrition Class presented by Feeding South Florida  Tues., April 8

1 p.m. – 2 p.m.  Learn to prepare tasty, nutritious meals and get tips on how to eat healthily while on a budget. Recipes and treats provided for the class.  Ages 19+

STEM Basketball Challenge  Tues., April 8  

6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  Build your own basketball hoop, while learning about critical thinking, problem solving and some science and engineering.  Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board.

Teen Library Advisory Committee  Wed., April 9 

4 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Earn volunteer hours while helping to improve the library and events for teens. Make new friends while choosing books, planning and leading programs and learning new skills.  Ages 13 – 19

Books with Mowgli  Sat. April 12

3 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Mowgli the Eastern Screech Owl will visit from the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station. Plus a book reading and hands on activity.  Ages 4 – 7

Chess Free Play: Think, Move, Play  Tues., April 15

6 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Whether a beginner or experienced, test your skills in a friendly game of chess. Ages 8+
