Miami Lakes Library programs in March

     The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering these in-person classes. 

Get Your Game On!  Thurs., Mar. 2  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Friendly competitions in video and board games. Ages 8 – 18.

Homework Help and Tutoring  Sat., March 4, 11 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.  Free, in-person tutoring by certified teachers for grades K-12 in reading, math and science. Visit www.mdpls.org/tutor for more information and to register. Funded in part by The Children’s Trust.

STEM Saturday  Sat. March 4  2 p.m. - 3 p.m.  Enjoy a hands-on activity with FIU undergraduate and medical students. Materials provided. Made possible by the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP. Registration required.  Ages 5 - 15.

Talking is Teaching: Talk, read, sing for toddlers in dos idiomas  Tues., March 14, 21, 28  11 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Stories, songs and activities for toddlers and caregivers in English and Spanish.

Ages 18 mos. - 3. 

Battle of the Things - Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Tues., March 7, 11 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  Thing Two challenges Thing One with tap dancing and lip-synching to decide who will be Thing of the Year. Presented by the Miami Children’s Museum. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board. All ages.  

Fantasy Portrait Class Wed., March 8,  4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. With artist David Sexton, design your own fantasy character portrait. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board. 

Materials provided. Ages 8 - 18.

Chess Club Tues., March 14, 28  6 p.m. - 7 p.m.  Play with other fans of the game.  Ages 8 - 18.

Teen Crafty Corner  Thurs., March 16,  4 p.m. - 5 p.m.  Explore your creativity through multi-media crafts. Ages 12 - 18.

National Endowment for the Arts Big Read 2023 in Spanish CANCELED

Sat., March 18, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.  “El Principe de las Pulgas” (“The Prince of Fleas”) by Cristina Rebull. A talking, abandoned dog befriends a boy with the goal of finding his human family in Chile.

All ages.

National Endowment for the Arts Big Read 2023 in Spanish  Wed., March 22 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. “Volver a Casa” (“Homegoing”) by Yaa Gyasi.  A story told over 200 years that follows eight generations of a family, from Ghana to the U.S.

Make Your Own Slime Wed., March 29, 4 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.  Try different ingredients to make stretchy or fluffy slime. Materials provided.  Ages 8 - 18.

      The library at 6699 Windmill Gate Rd. is open Mon. - Thurs., 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Fri. and Sat. 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.  It is closed Sundays and some Mondays.  Space is limited and registration may be
