     The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering the following online and in person classes. Space is limited; must register in advance to receive a link via email.

Manga Drawing 101

Tues., May 3, 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Learn how to draw characters in the style of Japanese comics and graphic novels with instructor David Sexton. Materials will be provided. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board.  Ages 8 - 18.

Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers en dos idiomas 

Tues., May 10, 17, 24, 31 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Bilingual stories, songs and activities. Ages 18 mos. - 3.

Free Comic Book Day

Sat., May 7 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Comics published by DC Comics and Marvel will be given away free, while supplies last. All ages.

Kowai Yo! Demons, Monsters and Spirits in Japan

Tues., May 10 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.  Explore the Japanese folklore world of Yokai in anime and games. Presented by the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board.  Ages 13+

Robot Petting Zoo

Sat., May 14  11 a.m. - Noon. Meet interactive robots, learn how they’re constructed and coded through hands on activities with interactive bots. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board.

Chess Enthusiasts

Tues., May 17 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. Sharpen your skills by playing with other chess fans. Ages 8+

Science in the city:  Elephant Toothpaste

Sat., May 21 10:30 am. - Noon Witness a bubbly science experiment and learn about chemical reactions. Ages 8 - 12.

Scratch Coding Basics - Online Class

Mon., May 23 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Learn to program and make interactive games, animation, art and stories using the Scratch program.  Ages 8 - 12.

Miami Lakes Teen Library Advisory Board

Wed., May 25 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.  Earn community service hours and make the library a better place for you and your friends. Visit the branch to submit a volunteer application and show a photo ID. 

Ages 16 - 19.

        The library is at 6699 Windmill Gate Rd. It is open Mon. - Thurs.,  9:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Fri. and Sat. 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., closed Sunday.
