Miami Lakes resident is Principal for the Day at Spanish Lake
Wednesday, February 27, 2019
Long time Miami Lakes resident Maria Elena Arias, real estate broker, empire builder, business consultant and business greatness coach, thought she wore many hats until she accepted the invitation to serve as Spanish Lake Elementary’s (SLE) Principal for Today.
She never realized the enormous task and responsibilities of a school principal. Her day began with an early morning parent conference and leadership meeting. At 8:35 a.m., it was upstairs to morning announcements honoring “Values Matter” students of the month, honor roll recipients, Science Fair and SECME awards before 8:50 a.m.
She returned to the principal’s office for preparation and assistance with emergency drills. Then she proceeded to classroom visits with participation in many learning experiences. By 11 a.m., she was ready to return to her “world”, but she truly appreciated the role of school principal.
Arias gave praises to Jacqueline Arias-Gonzalez, SLE’s school principal, for her diligent management of school operations and inspiration to others as a leader. She witnessed the nurturing and the development for teachers to lead, community connections, children thriving and the enhancement of the learning environment, overseeing budget policies and facilities, while maintaining an open-door policy. Most importantly, she realized the vital role the business community can play as an educational partner. SLE thanked Arias for participating in the Principal Today program and the start of a school-business partnership.
