The glee club from Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School sang during the blessing ceremony for the Nativity scene at Miami Lakes Town Hall on Dec. 12.
The students sang “Silent Night,” “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing” and “Feliz Navidad,” a crowd favorite that prompted the audience to join in.
“I want to thank the Our Lady of the Lakes community for always sponsoring this event,” Mayor Josh Dieguez said.
In its sixth year, the Nativity celebration at Town Hall included the glee club under the direction of Dominick Cama and Nicole Peña, who were joined by school Principal Barbara Picazo.
Father Ivan Rodriguez, pastor of the school and of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Parish, blessed the manger and led the audience in a prayer.
The setting symbolizes the humble circumstances of the birth of Christ, with figures representing his parents Mary and Joseph, an angel, shepherds, farm animals and three wise men.
Also attending were Miami Lakes Town Clerk Gina Inguanzo; the town’s Communications & Community Affairs Director Clarisell De Cardenas; Budget Director Melissa Hernandez and other town employees and residents.
Following the prayers, students Valentina Peña and Juliette Marquez placed a baby Jesus figure in his place inside the creche.
