MLK-8 Center Teacher Virnalis Arvelo treated 22 students from her eighth grade Language Arts class to dinner at ML Steaks + Sports in Miami Lakes.
The meal was a reward after 26 students in total earned high scores on the English Language Arts, Florida Assessment of Student Thinking exam.
Arvelo has hosted the end-of-year dinner since 2010 for her students to celebrate their accomplishments.
To be eligible for the dinner, students must have a level five score. Emily Nunez achieved perfect scores on the essay and multiple choice portion and Mariana Sanchez earned a perfect score on the essay, Arvelo said.
A perfect score is achieved by a student not missing a single question on the exam.
“I’m so proud of the students’ accomplishments,” Arvelo said in an email. “It’s a true testament of all their hard work and dedication.”
Arvelo calls herself the students’ biggest cheerleader.
“It’s an honor to watch them develop that intrinsic motivation needed to push them through to the next chapter of their journey,” Arvelo said.
Stratwell and Owner/Broker Eddie Blanco sponsored the dinner.
