Miami Lakes Vice Mayor Luis Collazo, Mayor Manny Cid and Councilman Carlos O. Alvarez, planted a ceremonial tree on Northwest 143rd Street at Northwest 87th Avenue on May 26th.
The planting launched Phase 5 of the town’s West Lake Reforestation Project.
The town is partnering with Miami-Dade County, Million Trees Miami and Neat Streets Miami and said it has planted more than 400 trees on the west side of town.
This summer’s project will place 183 more native shade trees in the area.
The goal is to create a canopy that will shelter pedestrians, improve air quality, absorb heavy rains and enhance property values, the town said.
