Monsignor Edward Pace High School senior Brian Rodriguez was awarded the 2016 Outstanding Youth Advocacy Award by the National PTA.

Rodriguez, who was recently sworn in for his second term as a Miami-Dade Youth Commissioner, is a leader in his school and community who has worked to get young people more engaged in local politics and their hometowns.

He is one of Pace’s five Silver Knight nominees and has worked tirelessly at the school to strengthen the bonds amongst his fellow students. Rodriguez is also a member of the Miami Lakes Youth Activities Task Force and the son of Miami Lakes Councilmember Nelson Rodriguez.

“Advocacy is critical to improve communities and the lives and futures of our nation’s youth. Brian exemplifies what it means to speak up and take action,” said Laura Bay, president of National PTA.

He will be traveling to Washington DC to receive his award at the National PTA Legislative Conference on March 9.
