Marist Brothers United States Province awarded a $2,000 ecology grant to the Evergreen Club at Monsignor Edward Pace High School in Miami Gardens.
Two Pace sophomores wrote the grant proposal, the school said.
Club founders Emilie Alvarez and Angelina Vargas are working to implement ecofriendly practices and promote education about ecology within the school community, a release from Pace said.
Marist Brothers United States Province is a Catholic ministry and charity that supports youth and the elderly.
“This remarkable achievement was made possible through the dedication and leadership of Emilie Alvarez and Angelina Vargas … who self-initiated and independently authored the grant,” Teacher Yvette de la Vega said.
