The good times continue to roll for Monsignor Edward Pace High School’s baseball team, as the Spartans beat Key West, 2-1, to advance to the 4-5A regional semifinal to face Gulliver Prep this week.
Gulliver beat Mater Lakes, 12-0, to advance to the semifinal match-up with Pace.
In the Key West game, Spartan’s pitcher Chris Rodriguez tossed a two-hitter and fanned 15 batters in a complete game.
Pace trailed by one in the fifth inning but rallied with back-to-back one-out doubles by Jonathan Reyes-Diaz and Bray Diaz.
Pace took the lead in the sixth inning and held on for the victory.
The Spartans have been on a roll as of late.
Pace captured the Class 5A District championship by edging Mater Lakes Academy, 5-4, and shut out Coral Springs Christian Academy, 10-0, to cap off 17 consecutive wins to end the regular season.
