Pets of Miami Lakes

This handsome boy, a nearly one-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, is named Henry.

He lives in Miami Lakes with Bella Rodriguez and Diego Morales.

“Honestly we didn’t know anything about corgis,” Rodriguez said about the breed. “As soon as we saw him, we fell in love with him.”

The low riding pups became well known as the favorite dog of the late Queen Elizabeth II of England, who bred them and owned more than 30. Her dogs were famous for reportedly being ankle biters, and it was said that one nipped their mistress, too.

But Rodriguez and Morales lucked out with Henry.

“He was so shy,” Rodriguez said. “I’d heard they are feisty and sassy. But he’s the sweetest and super friendly and super playful.”

Henry weighs about 28 pounds. His coat is sable (blondish-red) and white and he has four white boots.

His hobbies include playing tug a toy with his canine buddy in the dog park and chewing on sticks.

Henry is a regular at the Farmer’s Market and along Main Street. People smile when they see him because there are so few corgis around town, Rodriguez said.
