As plans to renovate the Miami Lakes Golf Club progress, there are some changes happening at the property. The photo at left taken on Feb. 8 looks south and shows seven trailers that will serve as the temporary clubhouse and golf course offices for the 60-year-old landmark property.
“As part of our redevelopment of that site, we will be building a brand-new clubhouse,” said Luis O. Martinez, senior executive vice president of The Graham Companies, which owns the club.
“The trailers are there and have to be permitted, made hurricane-proof and have power and internet brought to them,” Martinez said. “That literally takes months to do.”
The existing clubhouse and former Hotel Indigo will remain intact until demolition begins in June or July, after the trailers are ready and staff have moved in.
The photo at right, also looking south and provided by Roger Fry & Associates Architects, shows how the new single-story clubhouse will appear. A 278-unit apartment building and commercial spaces called The Residences & Shops on NINE is at left. A hoped-for completion date of the residential and golf facilities, which will include a banquet hall and driving range, is in 2025.
The property is at 7601 Miami Lakes Drive and is the first thing northbound drivers see as they exit the Palmetto Expressway. The Miami Lakes Town Council approved the project in June, 2022.
Development plans include a new drainage system for the golf course, which will remain open for play during renovations, Martinez said.
