Pride Awareness event at Farmer's Market

Two longtime residents of Miami Lakes rented a table at the Miami Lakes Farmer's Market for a "Pride Awareness" event.
Suzanne Choopani and Esther Colon organized the project that drew 25 volunteers and 70 visitors to the booth on June 26th, Choopani said.
The goal was to provide information about LGBThotline.org, which serves people of all ages.
“People who are struggling with their identity are especially at risk for depression, anxiety domestic violence and even homelessness,” Choopani said.
The volunteers also distributed pamphlets about the federal equality law.
More than two dozen people signed up to receive information about future events, fundraisers and celebrations, Choopani said.
