Wanting to get a better insight into law enforcement, members of the Town’s Public Safety Committee recently enrolled in the Miami-Dade Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA).

This 14-week program is held once a week in the evenings at the Department’s Fred Taylor Headquarters Building in Doral.

Created in 1993, the CPA offers civilians with civic interest an exposure to the “police experience” and enables participants to better understand police training, procedures and philosophy.

Students take classes on such topics as law, firearms and use of force, stress management, domestic violence, and patrol procedures. Also, each participants will take part in an eight-hour riding assignment. Upon course completion, students will experience a basic law enforcement style graduation and receive a diploma.
