Racing to meet an Olympian

Amahrie Florvil, a seventh-grader at Lawton Chiles Middle School, competed in the 400-meter dash finals at the prestigious Louie Bing Track & Field Invitational on Feb. 14 in Miami. She finished fifth in the race and third among seventh-graders. She also got to meet Olympic champion Twanisha “TeeTee” Terry, a Miami native and part of the U.S. team that won gold in the women’s 4x100-meter dash at the 2024 Paris Games.
