Miami Lakes has a new director of Public Works: Omar Santos Baez, who was appointed to the job on Sept. 8 after the resignation of the previous director, Carlos Acosta.
“I am sure that Omar is going to do an incredible job leading the [Public Works] team,” Town Manager Edward Pidermann said in an email to staff.
Pidermann said he was “very proud” to announce the promotion of Santos Baez. He joined town staff in 2019 and was a public works engineer.
Santos Baez began his new responsibilities on Sept. 17.
Acosta wrote in his resignation letter to Pidermann that he was “grateful for the rewarding employment” with the town and said he will miss colleagues, the council and residents.
Santos Baez is a licensed professional engineer. In Miami Lakes, he was project manager for the $2.1 million West Lakes drainage and road improvement project; the $1.1 million drainage and road improvement project in Royal Oaks and the $780,000 safe route greenway near Miami Lakes Elementary School, according to his resume.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering at Florida International University.
