Schwinghammer's eagle scout project provides poetry park

Miami Lakes resident and Boy Scout member Broderick Schwinghammer recently completed an Eagle Scout project at the neighborhood town park located at 7350 Sabal Drive. The concept of the project for a poetry park was an idea that Schwinghammer brought to the town.

The goal was to improve the condition of the park and better the Miami Lakes community . As part of the project, an existing wall was opened to provide public access to the area behind the wall, the property was cleaned of garbage, and a nature trail was created on the property leading to view of the adjacent canal with seating areas for “creative thinking and writing” such as poetry.

The area provides a unique nature trail feeling in a local suburban neighborhood. As part of the project,  Schwinghammer held a community meeting in June to present his proposed ideas to surrounding residents.

On September 5, Mayor Ceasar Mestre and Community and Leisure Services director Tony Lopez meet with Schwinghammer at the park to see the project first hand which is scheduled to be open in October.
