Roselyn Castillo, an 8th grade honor student at Bob Graham Education Center, hopes to visit Washington D.C. with her school next May for an unforgettable trip to the nation's political hub and historical sites.

"This trip is a once in a lifetime experience. It will give me the opportunity to experience our government in action and gain the skills, knowledge and confidence I need to be an engaged citizen," said Castillo.

Her neighborhood, Serenity Pointe, located in Miami Lakes on N.W. 144 Street and 87 Avenue, will host a garage sale on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Castillo will be participating in the garage sale to raise funds for her trip to Washington.

The trip is organized by the Close Up Foundation which, since 1971, has worked to invite over 750,000 students and teachers from across the country to Washington D.C. for a firsthand experience of the nation's capital.

"I will have a big sign up for people to find me. Please make sure to stop by the garage sale," said Castillo. "You are sure to find something you would like to purchase and at the same time you will be supporting me in my efforts."
