Sock Hop to benefit Hialeah Senior High School grads

Alumni from Hialeah Senior High School are raising money to help former classmates with medical expenses.

Led by Gary Snow of Snow’s Jewelers, the group calls themselves Gary and the Calendar Girls of the ‘60s.

In 2011, they began to fundraise by selling calendars with themes, Snow said. The friends dressed in costumes and posed for the photos.

This year they’re hosting a Halloween Sock Hop on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Shula’s Hotel & Golf Club, 6842 Main St. in Miami Lakes.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in costume.

There will be a buffet dinner and dancing to the “golden oldies” from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.

The ticket price of $95 is for dinner and two drink tickets.

The Sock Hop is part of a full weekend of activities that begin Friday, Oct. 29 and include a meet and greet of classes from the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s in

the hotel lounge; tennis or golf on Saturday and a softball game on Sunday.

For more information about events call Gary Snow at 305- 556-0511.

For credit card purchases call Snow or send checks to Gary Snow, c/o HHS Cancer Fund, 6837 Main St., Miami Lakes, FL 33014.

Snow said the event is not a legal charity and contributions are not tax-deductible.
