Since 2019, students from Miami Lakes have worked on behalf of the Loving Soles charity and collected gently worn shoes from all over South Florida.

The footwear is then donated to Camillus House, an organization that serves the hungry and homeless in South Florida.

This year, kids in 20 public, private and charter schools were joined by employees in 19 cities in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, the Miami-Dade County League of Cities and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office to contribute more than 10,000 pairs of shoes, said Miami Lakes Town Clerk Gina Inguanzo.

The Inguanzo children - Christopher, Sophia and Susanna - have planned the shoe drive and worked on the project for five years.

With their friends each spring, they have collected, sorted, cleaned and made wearable nearly 40,000 pairs of shoes, Gina Inguanzo said.
