South Florida Sluggers 12U Team captures Grand Bahama tourney title

The 12-Under South Florida Sluggers, one of the longest standing teams on the South Florida Travel Baseball scene, went international this summer to win the Grand Bahama Sports Festival Tournament championship which was held in Freeport, Grand Bahama August 8 -10.

The Sluggers went 4-0 outscoring the competition 33-10. The team was 2-0 in pool play scoring a total of 18 runs and allowing only 4. They earned the Number 1 seed and had a first round bye before winning the semifinal game 8-3 behind an offensive display that manufactured 8 runs on 12 hits earning a place in the championship game against a talented 3-0 team from Tampa.

In the final game, the Sluggers were down 3-2 going into the bottom of the 5th inning with six outs left to come back, and that is exactly what they did. They put 5 runs on the  board to take a 7-3 lead into the top of the 6th inning and held the Tampa team scoreless in the final inning to capture the title.

The South Florida Sluggers family expressed their appreciation to all who helped the kids get to the Bahamas to experience international baseball especially Antonio Acosta, owner of First Quality Electric.
