Dr. Melissa Alfonso Sedeño and her husband and dental practice partner Dr. Eddy J. Sedeño III are accumulating accomplishments during their growing careers.
Miami Lakers chose their practice, Specialty Smiles Orthodontics, as Best Health Providers in 2020, 2021 and 2022 during the annual Best of Miami Lakes competitions.
And this year, the couple’s alma mater has recognized their business success.
The University of Florida named Specialty Smiles Orthodontics to its 2023 Gator100.
Inclusion in the group of 100 firms means a recognition of financial success that is verified by an accounting firm.
Gator100 shines a spotlight on “some of the fastest-growing businesses in the world” built or led by University of Florida alumni, the school website says.
“We are honored to have made the Gator100, but even more humbled by the overwhelming support we have received from the community, friends, and patient family over the years which has made this possible,” Eddy Sedeño said in an email.
Specialty Smiles Orthodontics began in 2017, when the Sedeños took over another practice at the Windmill Gate shopping center.
Since then, they have expanded and see patients at their offices in Miramar, Davie and North Miami.
The couple, both 36, are certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
They live in Miami Lakes where he grew up. Melissa Sedeño was raised in Kendall.
They have three girls: Bella, 5, Mia, 3 and Evvy, 1, who attend Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School.
Melissa Sedeño was honored as a 2022 Miami Lakes Women of Distinction.
Eddy Sedeño serves as a secretary on the board of the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce.
Previously he was a volunteer member of the town’s Youth Activities Task Force and a member of a Neighborhood Service District in Royal Oaks.
About the couple’s journey that includes more than a decade of education, Eddy Sedeño said, “A big chunk of our lives was in Gainesville and it’s nice to be able to bring that training and experience home, and now bring home the Gator100 Award too.”
Specialty Smiles Orthodontics treats children and adults. Initial consultations are free.
