St. Thomas women's soccer team receives recent honors

The St. Thomas University women’s soccer team received honors from the Sun Conference for the 2015 season during a recent banquet hosted by regular-season champion SCAD Savannah in Georgia.

Bobcats’ senior defender Sarrah Granda was named to the First-Team All-Conference, while forward Sharon Tejeda was named to the Second-Team and midfielder Sarah Lyppert Thomsson received honorable mention.

Bobcats players Claudia Avila, Michelle Bailey, Zelda Jagryd, Andreina Sifontes and Thomsson were all named to the conference’s All-Academic Team.

In a related honors presention, St. Thomas University women’s volleyball player Whitney Battoe, who averaged 3.2 kills per set this season, was named the 2015 All-Sun Conference Player of the Year during the Sun Conference Tournament Banquet, hosted by regular season champion Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida.

The sophomore from Illinois totaled a team-high 303 kills, and had a .241 hitting percentage. She also added 143 digs, 45 blocks and 33 aces.

The Bobcats also placed Samantha Garza on the First Team All-Sun Conference list along with Battoe.

In addition, three St. Thomas University players were named to the Second-Team All Conference, Dana Nowaczyk, Marisa Markus, and Cheye-Anne Savage, while Jordan Wiese was named and honorable mention All-Conference. 

Battoe, Killi Kosydor, Caitlin McCluskey and Jordan Wiese were all named to the Academic All-Conference team.
