The Miami Lakes Moover, a free service to local residents and visitors which runs through all of Miami Lakes, has added an additional route to its regular weekday services. Local resident, Ray Almeida, put together a petition when he saw that many of his neighbors would benefit from a route to places of worship on Sundays. With petition in hand, Almeida took his idea for a Sunday route to Vice Mayor Manny Cid.
“The community got together to show demand for this, which is great to see,” said Cid.
The new Sunday route is tentatively set to begin at the end of October as an on-demand service for those interested in using it to attend religious worship services from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This addition will not need additional funding as the town recently entered into new operations and maintenance agreements and expect to have sufficient savings to be able to expand the service to accommodate this need, according to Cid.
The new route is an addition to the mover’s regular fixed routes that circle throughout Miami Lakes on Mondays through Fridays from 6 to 10 a.m. and 2:15 to 7 p.m. with travel periods every 35-40 minutes. The bus also provides connections to existing Metrobus stops and Metrorail via the Ludlam Limited Route. This free service also includes an on-demand bus service with a 24 hour call ahead reservation, and stops during drop-off and dismissal times at Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High School.
“This really demonstrates the receptiveness of our officials and the idea of community when a group of individuals can come together and bring something to fruition that will benefit everyone in the town,” said Almeida.
