The school board recognized Miami Lakes K-8 Center third grader Marcus Berg on May 21. Marcus, of Miami Lakes, won the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent’s Award of Excellence in Leadership and Service.
The award honors students in the gifted program who have made significant contributions to their community.
“Marcus did this with the Wave Maker Competition, [with] a project about protecting and helping rebuild coral reefs,” Teacher Kristina Cala said in an email. Marcus is also a Boy Scout and a leader in the school who sets a good example, according to Cala.
“Marcus exemplifies the spirit for service and inspires all around to strive for excellence,” the school said.
