Teenager continues her literacy campaign with a third Little Free Library

Ciancy Bernal is continuing her quest to make sure that Miami Lakes residents have free books to read.

Ciancy, 16, a rising junior at Archbishop McCarthy High School, helped erect another Little Free Library, which was donated by The Graham Companies

     The boxes cost $800.

The bright blue metal weatherproof box is attached to the top of a wooden pole and has a door that latches shut.

Readers can donate books to it and take some home to read, too.

There are now three new Little Free Libraries thanks to Ciancy’s efforts, among 11 around Miami Lakes.

Her first library was a project with her brother Armando Bernal. She installed the second one on her own in November 2025.

Yancy Bernal said in an email that her daughter’s latest Little Free Library is at 15299 Dunbarton Place, in the Lake Glenn-Ellen neighborhood.

“Her ambition is to set up many libraries around her town, to share her love of reading and motivate youth to read more,” Bernal wrote in an email.
