On Friday, February 21, Miami Lakes Mayor Wayne Slaton threw out the first pitch of the Miami Lakes Optimist Baseball season.
Slaton recognized Optimist Club president Luis Arrojas, vice president of Baseball Elbert Alfaro, as well as the Baseball commissioners for their efforts and dedication to the program.
With over 45 teams and more than 550 children registered for baseball and softball, the season is off to a great start.
“On behalf of the Town of Miami Lakes, I congratulate all of the Optimist Club leaders, coaches and parents for their efforts to provide quality programming for our youth,” Slaton said. “Best of luck to all of the teams this baseball season and we look forward to some great games!”
A volunteer-based organization, the Optimist Club of Miami Lakes, in partnership with the Town, has assisted in the development of youth through quality sports and educational programs since 1969, fostering a foundation of strong, civic minded citizenry within the community. This strong relationship and dual commitment to the children has enabled the club and town to provide successful programs year after year.
