Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board (EAB) and The Graham Companies announced the two winners of the Miami Lakes Future Leaders Scholarships at the May 3 Town Council meeting.
The two recipients are both Miami Lakes residents and received a $1,000 Miami Lakes Future Leaders Scholarship presented by corporate sponsor The Graham Companies.
Elizabeth Ruiz, a graduating senior from Mater Lakes Academy, will attend Florida Atlantic University.
Yesenia Montenotte, a graduating senior from Barbara Goleman Senior High, will attend Florida International University.
The EAB was charged with the difficult task of selecting two winners from the many deserving and outstanding students who applied.
Members of the EAB were also recognized at the Council meeting for their dedication to the Town’s students, serving as the liaison between the Town, the residents, and local schools.
Those recognized included Claudia Luces, Star Rodriguez, Marilyn Ruano, Janet Marti, Jacqueline Vaquer, Paula Hagen, and school principals Carlos Salcedo, Joaquin Hernandez, Eric Acosta, Lourdes Diaz, Yecenia Martinez-Lopez and Dr. Manuel Sanchez III.
“The Education Advisory Board actively engages with our local schools as well as the Town Council to ensure Miami Lakes students have the absolute best educational programs and academic activities available to them,” said Councilmember Ceasar Mestre. “We are indeed blessed to have such a top-quality team that continues to provide insight on how to best serve the children of our community.”
