Every two years, the Miami-Dade County Parks Department hosts the Great Park Summit (GPS), which showcases innovated planning designs, current trends in the field of planning, and hosts experts from around the country to share ideas and best practices in the fields of parks and recreation.
This year, the Town of Miami Lakes was unanimously selected to receive the William Lyman Phillips Award for excellence in parks, recreation and conservation open space planning and design in Miami-Dade County.
Miami Lakes has one of the most unique parks systems in the county, consisting of over 100 park locations in its 6.5-square-mile boundaries. The Town operates two community centers, a Youth Center, two active parks with athletic facilities, three passive community parks with recreation facilities, six passive parks with lakefront beaches, one greenway and three exercise trails, 23 lakes, and one marina.
