Town changes credit and debit card fee policy

The Town of Miami Lakes has revised its credit and debit card fee policy.

Card holders who pay for municipal services will also be responsible for the transaction processing fee charged by the town’s third-party payment processor.

Those fees will be tacked onto electronic payments for building and planning permits; licenses; code enforcement fines; rentals of park facilities and other town services.

The exact fee amount will vary depending on how payment is made but will be displayed to customers at the time of purchase and before the sale, the town said.

The new policy is expected to reduce the town’s annual processing fee expenses by approximately $50,000, the town said.

Methods to pay for services that do not incur the transaction fee include writing a check or providing a money order or a cashier’s check.
