The Town of Miami Lakes is offering hardship grants related to the coronavirus pandemic to small business owners.

The deadline to apply for a one-time grant for COVID-19-related expenses of up to $10,000 is Dec. 4.

Three categories will be considered for payment by the town:  Loss of revenue up to $10,000 and commercial rent or mortgage assistance of up to $5,000.

The business must be located in town and have a current business tax receipt.

Also, the business must have 20 or fewer employees, including the owner, and be in good standing with code compliance prior to March 1, 2020.

Payments for delinquent rent or mortgages will be paid directly to a landlord or lender.

Businesses that received CARES Act Paycheck Protection Program funds or an SBA loan are eligible to apply for additional expenses; receipt of monies from other sources will disqualify applications to this program.

Documents such as leases and tax returns are required from applicants and the town is advising business owners to apply quickly to the program.

Funds of $540,370 are available in this grant partnership with Miami-Dade County, the town said.

Completed applications and documents may be sent to sbgp@miamilakes-fl.gov or dropped off at town hall, 6601 Main St., to the attention of the finance director.

The application deadline is Dec. 4 at 5 p.m., and officials will begin distributing funds on Dec. 14.
