The proposed budget for the 2022-2023 municipal general fund is $19.5 million, Miami Lakes Town Manager Ed Pidermann said during a presentation at town hall on Aug. 25.

The number could change before the first of two budget meetings is held on Sept. 14, 6:30 p.m. at town hall.

Among the expenditures Pidermann hopes to include in the spending plan:

--Increase the police budget by $25,000 to pay for more traffic enforcement on weekend evenings and with $25,000 in additional funding, create a burglary task force to focus on car break-ins that have risen by 29% since Jan. 1.

--Install License Plate Readers at key intersections; $49,089 currently allocated.

--Town Attorney Raul Gastesi is seeking a $40,000 increase to his $200,000 contract, citing rising costs in all aspects of his business.

The proposed millage rate is the same as the past five years, $2.3127, but if a property increased in value the owner may pay a higher tax bill.
