In honor of Autism Awareness Month, Miami Lakes Town Hall was lit up blue throughout April and staff kicked off its participation in “Light It Up Blue World Autism Awareness Day” on April 2 by wearing blue.
At the April 14 Town Council meeting, a proclamation was presented designating the month of April as “Autism Awareness Month” in Miami Lakes with the Mayor, Councilmembers, Town Manager, Town Clerk and Town Attorney all wearing blue polo shirts on the dais.
Oscar Amuz from Hope for Autism Soccer, and Dr. Michael Alessandri from the Miami Lakes branch of the University of Miami-Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, attended the Council meeting in support of Autism Awareness Month.
“Miami Lakes is honored to join the efforts taking place around the world during April to increase Autism awareness,” said Mayor Wayne Slaton. “Autism has a tremendous impact on children, their families, communities and societies around the world. By proclaiming April as Autism Awareness Month in Miami Lakes, we honor those living with this disorder and their families as well as local organizations and professionals dedicated to enhancing their quality of life.”
