Town stabilizing canal bank along NW 170th Street

     The Town of Miami Lakes broke ground on May 22 to celebrate the start of a stabilization project along the Golden Glades Canal.  Members of the public works department, the grants department and town council marked the launch of the work happening at Northwest 170th Street near Interstate 75. 

     “This project will not only stabilize the canal, but also reduce flooding, prevent erosion and also protect vital environmental property and the homes here in Miami Lakes,” Grants and Governmental Affairs Manager Renée Wilson said in a video produced by the town. 

     Wilson secured $1 million in state legislative appropriations that is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. She said that the town has previously received $2 million for Phases 1 and II of the project that strengthens canal banks in town. Mayor Manny Cid said about 4,500 linear feet of work will be done to protect homes along the south side of the canal.
