For the second consecutive season, the Miami Lakes Middle School girls’ basketball team finished the season undefeated and won the North Dade County Middle School Championship, a 54-20 victory over Southwood Middle.
The Warriors (8-0) defeated the Superstars last year to win the title.
Miami Lakes Middle’s head coach Tracie Pullum said she coached a great group of girls, some who are graduating and heading off to high school.
“I don’t know if we will have the same type of team for next year, but I am proud of this group of girls,” she said. “They worked very hard this season and did a great job.”
Pullum said Warriors players Veonce Powell, Colleen Bucknor, Darria Whitley and Kiara Cruz are the MVPs of the team.
“Those girls carried the team,” she said. They put in 110 percent. “They are outstanding players.”
