FBI honors Superintendent Carvalho

Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho has been awarded the FBI Director’s 2014 Community Leadership Award in recognition of his work enhancing students’ academic enrichment. The announcement was made last December, and FBI director James Comey presented the award on May 4 in Washington, D.C.
  Wanting to get a better insight into law enforcement, members of the Town’s Public Safety Committee recently enrolled in the Miami-Dade Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA). This 14-week program is held once a week in the evenings at the Department’s Fred Taylor Headquarters Building in Doral.   Works of art created by Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High (HML) art students were recently on display inside the Mary Collins Community Center.   Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board and The Graham Companies presented the two winners of the Miami Lakes Future Leaders Scholarships at the May 5 Town Council meeting. Both students are highly accomplished and demonstrated excellence in both academics and community service, and were chosen as the winners by the Education Advisory Board. YMCA Summer Camp runs from June 8 to Aug. 14

  The Town’s YMCA Summer Camp Program is scheduled to run from June 8 through August 14, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Roberto Alonso Community Center, 16500 N.W. 87 Avenue. The camp is open to children ages 5 to 12 years old, as well as 13 to 15 year olds who can participate in the Leaders in Training program.  There is a $40 one time registration fee.
