  The Town of Miami Lakes has implemented a new online Community Events Calendar. Residents and visitors can access information on local events, carnivals and festivals. Local businesses and organizations will have the opportunity to submit their events to the town to be posted on the Community Calendar. Town staff wears blue for Autism Day

In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, the Town of Miami Lakes staff wore blue on April 2 to participate in Light It Up Blue, a unique global initiative that kicks-off Autism Awareness Month. Mayor Wayne Slaton and the Town Council voted unanimously to proclaim April as Autism Awareness Month in the town during the April 8 Council meeting.
  Following the abrupt departure of Miami-Dade County  Expressway (MDX) Authority board member Gonzalo Sanabria, Florida Governor Rick Scott appointed Miami Lakes resident Javier Vazquez to the committee and tapped him to help lower costs for Floridians and fight toll fee increases. The longtime educator and Department Head at Miami Lakes Middle School has been attending various civic competitions with her social studies students as she does every year, while preparing for the grand opening of her classroom courtroom.
