American High won its first football game but Hialeah Miami Lakes wasn’t so lucky as the two schools kicked-off the regular season under two new head coaches.
The Patriots knocked off North Miami, 45-12, while Miami High blew out the Trojans, 35-0, last week.
Led by head coach Anthony White, American scored three return touchdowns in the first quarter, as Joshua Dinson had a 100-yard interception return, his brother Jeremiah Dinson scored on 95-yard kick return and safety Karon Jackson took the ensuing kickoff 55 yards for another score.
The Stingarees won despite their starting quarterback missing the game due to an illness, as senior quarterback Keith Johnson threw for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
Miami High held the Trojans to 90 total yards on offense and forced three turnovers.
It wasn’t a good debut for Trojans’ new coach Horane Allison, who watched his team turn the ball over on downs three times.
