Jose Marti MAST 6-12 Academy in Hialeah announced in December that QuestBridge helped three of its students receive college scholarships.

QuestBridge is a non-profit organization in Palo Alto, Calif. that assists high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds to attend summer courses and obtain college scholarships, internships and mentors.

Gabriela Aloma arrived in the United States less than three years ago and is very nimble in her use of the English language, which she speaks “with a sparkle of a Spanish accent,” the school said. Gabriela, 18, will attend Davidson College in Davidson, N.C. on a full scholarship. Her goal is to become a doctor.

Cristobal (Artemis) Cruz, 17, is headed to Pomona College in Claremont, Calif.  The environment, culture, literature and gender issues are some of the topics Artemis is curious about.

“Artemis is interested, adept and active in a wide range of matters, all while continuing to learn and achieve academically in our rigorous STEM school,”  Jose Marti Mast 6-12 Academy said.

Duke University in Durham, N.C. accepted Angeline Fuxa, who was matched to her dream school by QuestBridge, according to Jose Marti Mast 6-12 Academy. Angeline, 17, is president of the school’s National Honor Society and vice-president of the Class of 2025. The school said Angeline is “distinctly recognized as a leader among her peers” and that she has taken a range of science courses, furthering her interest in the universe.  She plans to major in astrophysics.
