Local student athletes named to Herald's All-Dade teams

A group of local student-athletes were honored for their stellar performances for 2015-2016 sports season, as they were named to The Miami Herald’s All-Dade Teams for basketball, soccer, wrestling and cheerleading.

For boys’ basketball, Mater Academy senior guard Dylan Frye was named to the All-Dade 8A-6A First Team, averaging 23 points, six assists and four rebounds per game, while his teammates senior guard Chris Mejia and senior player Rafael Diaz made the Second Team.

Honorable mentions included American players Shaq Harris, Kobie Johnson,  Kavaughn Evans and Jonathan Vilchez; and Mater Academy players Shimoore Stern, Damari Monsato and Jesus Duquesne.

Making the All-Dade 4A-2A Second Team were Dade Christian’s junior forward Abule Abadi, with honorable mentions for his teammates, Liam Fitzgerald and Brock Stephenson.

For girls’ basketball, Pace señor guard Lindsey Pierre made the All-Dade 4A-2A Second Team.

For 8A-6A All-Dade Team, honorable mentions included Mater Academy Ansly Jimenez, Melanie Sequeda, Sophia Osorio and Elizabeth Dalmau. 

For boys’ soccer, making the All-Dade 5A-4A team was American senior defender Camilo Rojas, who recorded nine goals and eight assists, and his teammate, junior defender Samir Lopez, who scored seven goals and added 10 assists.

Third team members included Hialeah Gardens senior forward Anthony Rodriguez and his teammate, senior defender Juan Rebellon.

Honorable mentions included Hialeah Gardens players Alex Morejon, Jonatan Aranda, Carlos Messore and Martin Perez.

For girls’ soccer, All-Dade 5A-4A team members included Pace senior midfielder Juliette Dubon, and honorable mentions included Hialeah Miami Lakes players Samantha Gutierrez, Syann Mark and Emily Gomez.

For wrestling, making the All-Dade First Team were Pace’s Alex Perez, who won the state  title in the 138 weight division, and Goleman’s Enrique Kelly who reached the state tournament in the 182 weight division and finished with a 43-5 record for the season.

Third team members included Goleman’s Ivan Martinez and Mater Lakes’ Cole Schwartzberg.

For cheerleading, First Team members included Pace’s Andreah Gonzalez, Kaitlynn Herrera and Kelsey Murrell, who were winners at the 1A state tournament.
