Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser Pedro J. Garcia is the guest speaker for the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce monthly membership luncheon.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 at Don Shula’s Hotel Grand Ballroom.
In 2008, Garcia was elected as the county’s first elected property appraiser in more than five decades. He was re-elected to the office In 2014.
Garcia has worked in the real estate industry since 1976 as a certified appraiser and real estate broker.
In addition, from 1998 to 2008, Garcia was a special magistrate with the County's Value Adjustment Board that adjudicates property owners' appeals against their assessments.
In the campaign leading to his November 4, 2014 election victory, Garcia pledged to continue his policy of ensuring complete fairness and accuracy in the county's property assessments, which in part determine a homeowner's level of property taxes. One of his top priorities is to aggressively pursue and investigate Homestead Exemption Fraud.
Garcia was born in Cuba, where he attended Havana Business University for two years. He and his family have lived in Miami since June 1962. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the American Legion.
He and his wife Amalia have been married since 1959. They have four daughters and thirteen grandchildren. Garcia's hobbies are golf and fishing.
Networking starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Deadline to reserve for the event is Friday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m.
Lunch admission is $30 for members and their guests who reserve; $35 for members and their guests who don’t reserve and $40 for non-members (cash only).
