M. Lakes Congregational Church holds special needs worship service

Religious Thursday, October 16, 2014

Miami Lakes Congregational Church hosted its first special needs worship service on Sunday, September 28, and will continue to offer the “Everyone’s Included” service on the 4th Sunday of each month at 4 p.m.

The theme of the first service was “Love One Another” and featured a brief scripture reading, music and videos. Jorge Stelling played guitar, and participants enjoyed refreshments and fellowship following the service.

This worship service is designed to be accessible to all individuals with cognitive, developmental, or physical special needs, their families, and caregivers. Services are 30 minutes and incorporate sensory accommodations as well as sensory expanding experiences. Opportunities for movement are incorporated. Signing is provided for the hearing impaired. Sound-cancelling headphones are also available and visual supports are provided during the service.

The service is held in Fellowship Hall where there are fewer restrictions, easy wheel chair accessibility, and a more casual and relaxed environment.

The next service will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 26 with a theme, “We are many parts, but ONE body.”
