Miami Lakes resident and District 13 Youth Commissioner Brian Rodriguez was awarded the 2016 Outstanding Youth Advocacy Award by the National Parent Teacher Association.
The non-profit organization comprises millions of families, students, teachers, administrators and business and community leaders devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of parent involvement in schools.
Rodriguez was recognized during a recent Miami-Dade County Commission meeting at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center in downtown Miami.
Rodriguez, who recently graduated from Monsignor Edward Pace High School and was a Silver Knight nominee, will be attending college in the fall.
He is the son of Miami Lakes Councilmember and Coral Gables firefighter Nelson Rodriguez.
