The Miami Lakes CROP Hunger Walk is a local event which aims to raise thousands of dollars to help end hunger and poverty in the community and around the world. Miami Lakes Congregational Church is participating as a location for the walk scheduled for Saturday, February 28 at 9:30 a.m. though participants are should arrive between 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. to register.

All members of the community are welcome to participate in this event either by raising funds and walking or by making donations. There is no fee for participation. The walk will begin and end at Miami Lakes Congregational Church, 6701 Miami Lakeway South, at the corner of Ludlam Road. Walkers have a choice between a one or three mile walk route.

Now in its 15th year, the Miami Lakes CROP Hunger Walk involves multiple religious and other charitable organizations from northern Miami-Dade County. A total of 25 percent of the funds raised will go to the Family Center of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Hialeah. The balance will be contributed through Church World Service programs in 80 countries.

This year Miami Lakes and 2,000 cities and towns nationwide are joining together in interfaith community around the theme “ending hunger one step at a time.” Many of the CROP walkers will be wearing t-shirts, proclaiming their solidarity with the millions of neighbors around the world who struggle to live as well as the millions served by local food pantries, food banks and meal sites.
