After having a very successful event last year, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Miami Lakes announced a Second Annual Square Dance to benefit project ELIMINATE on Saturday October 3, from 6:30 until 9 p.m. at the Robert Alonso Community Center at Royal Oaks Park, 16500 N.W. 87 Ave.
There will be a professional square dance caller who will be teaching novices how to square dance. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event as well as various items up for auction in a silent auction. The ticket price for the event is $15.00 person. Ticket purchasers can make out their check to Kiwanis International Foundation, a 501c3 organization, for tax purposes which are tax deductible as allowed by law.
The Kiwanis Club is presently soliciting donations from local businesses and individuals for the silent auction. Last year’s auction items ranged from gift cards to local restaurants and stores to high end golf clubs by Odyssey and much more.
Kiwanis International and UNICEF joined forces on a five year project to raise $110,000,000.00 dollars to eliminate maternal and neo-natal tetanus in third world countries. This project was appropriately named the ELIMINATE project and for just $1.80 a child or mother is vaccinated against tetanus. To date over $100,000,000.00 has been raised towards meeting the goal.
This has been accomplished through the efforts of Kiwanis clubs worldwide and their Sponsored Leadership Clubs (SLPs) such as CKI clubs at the collegiate level, Key Clubs at the high school level, Builders Clubs at the middle school level and K-Kids clubs at the elementary school level and Aktion clubs (for adults with disabilities).
The Kiwanis Club of Greater Miami Lakes is proud to sponsor local SLPs at Barbara Goleman Senior High, Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High, American Senior High, Miami Lakes Educational Center Senior High, Hialeah Gardens Senior High, Jose Marti Senior High, Mater Lakes Senior High, Builders Club of Milam K-8 Center Middle School, and the Builders Club of Hialeah Gardens Middle School.
