Miami Lakes Town Manager Edward Pidermann earns ICMA Credentialed Manager title

Miami Lakes Town Manager Edward Pidermann has earned a ICMA Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), effective Feb. 2.

Pidermann is one of approximately 1,300 local government management professionals worldwide credentialed through the program that sets standards for integrity, leadership and professional development in local government management, the town said.

“Earning the ICMA-CM designation has been an important professional goal for me, and I am grateful for the support of the mayor, town council, staff and the Miami Lakes community,” Pidermann said.

“This credential reflects my commitment to ethical leadership, continuous learning and serving our residents with professionalism and integrity.

“It has been an honor to serve my hometown for the past seven years, and I look forward to continuing that work together,” Pidermann said in a town news release.

Pidermann has a 40-year career in public service that included 33 years in the fire service, where he rose to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief in the City of Miami.

The town council appointed Pidermann as town manager on Feb. 2, 2019.

His current contract that pays him $234,000 ends in Feb. 2027. It required him to pursue the ICMA credential.

Pidermann oversees 90 employees and contract staff and an approximately $90 million operating and capital budget.

“Ed’s achievement of the ICMA-CM credential is a testament to his professionalism, leadership and commitment to excellence in public service,” Mayor Joshua Dieguez said in the release.

“This distinction reflects his dedication to continuous improvement and the high standard of management that Miami Lakes residents expect and deserve,” Dieguez said.

“We are grateful for his seven years of service and proud to see him recognized among the top local government professionals worldwide.”

To receive the credentialed manager designation, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government; hold a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field and demonstrate a commitment to high standards of integrity, lifelong learning, and professional development.

Pidermann’s degrees include a Master of Public Administration from Florida International University and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from St. Thomas University

Miami Dade College awarded his associate degrees in fire science technology and emergency medical service, and inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2016.

In addition to the ICMA, he is also a member of the Florida City/County Management Association and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 587.

Pidermann was a member of the initial Town Charter committee in 2000, helping to draft the Town’s first charter, which is undergoing its decennial review this year.
