Despite the Panther’s 3-1 lost to Charlotte in the semifinals in the 2017 Conference USA tournament, Florida International University men’s soccer player Paul Marie and Marvin Hezel were named to the All-Tournament team.
Marie scored the lone goal for FIU in the 12th minute against Charlotte, when he took a soft touch from junior Santiago Pantino, and beat goalkeeper Elliot Panic to make the score 1-0.
It was his seventh goal for the season.
On the defensive end, Hezel assisted the Panthers in keeping the match tied at one apiece throughout the first half. The 49ers took the lead in the second half when they scored in the 77th minute to make the game 2-1. The insurance goal for Charlotte came with only 21 seconds left in regulation, which finalized the score at 3-1.
